NSCA has been fortunate to partner with David Perkins and the Business Owner Journal for more than a decade. David just published his last Business Owner Journal, and will now concentrate efforts on his consulting business. This publication, which our members received every other month as part of their membership benefits, has truly helped systems integrators raise the bar when it comes to professionalism and developing the business skills our industry desperately lacked. David, his team, and their publication will be sorely missed. Please make sure you read the last issue; it has some terrific advice and parting words.
So now what? Over the last 17 years, I’ve been able to surround myself with some great business leaders. Many of these folks will help contribute to the new (and electronic) version of the Business Owner Journal. Starting Jan. 1, we will unveil an all new e-version of the Business Owner, comprised of columns and articles that will be featured in the Resources section of NSCA’s website. This means our members will receive updated, relevant content on a more frequent basis. Rather than waiting 60 days for the Business Owner Journal to arrive in the mail, you’ll find bi-weekly articles on www.nsca.org to view and download.
These articles will still focus on business valuation and increasing owner equity, taxation and corporate structure, risk management, ethics and business principles, improving earnings, tips and best practices, budgeting and business plans, strategic planning, workforce development, human resources, etc. We will keep the content top level, and specifically geared to the business owner.
Perhaps the most significant change in this content will be a closer connection to the business of systems integration. The contributors have owned, managed, or currently operate a company involved in our industry. From time to time, we will add the words of outside accounting and legal advisors … but only ones we know have worked with our member companies. For example, the business valuation expert who will be providing content for us has represented either the buyer or seller in multiple mergers and acquisitions in our industry. He, like the other experts, knows the systems integration business.
NSCA is your voice, your business resource, and your trusted advisor. Every day, we help members run their businesses better by offering tools and advice on improving profits, changing technologies, and important trends. This new e-Business Owner resource will demonstrate further proof that you can rely on us to provide sage advice and help you discover new ways to run your business more effectively and profitably. CW
