It’s a smart way of thinking: If your workers are enjoying their work experiences, then your customers will also enjoy better service from happier employees.
That philosophy has held true at La Mirada, CA-based Spinitar since the company opened its doors in 1986. From the top down, everyone makes it a goal to create a sense of community amongst the company family by celebrating and awarding engagement.
One notable example is the company’s Chairman’s Club event, where the employee of the quarter, top sales performers, top teams, and their spouses/guests visit an all-inclusive resort to recognize success. (Sounds like a great way to celebrate to us!)
Smaller things are celebrated, too, including birthdays and milestone work anniversaries (which are recognized with gifts ranging from a watch to a Maui trip).
In addition to celebrating successes, employee engagement also comes down to keeping everyone updated on company news. Quarterly breakfast meetings make sure everyone’s on the same page about what’s happening across Spinitar. A quarterly newsletter highlights people, goals, and projects, offering an additional way for everyone to stay connected and up to date.
The company’s annual Golf for Hope event is another impressive example of employee engagement that also has far-reaching impacts. Each year, the event brings together industry professionals to give back to City of Hope (a private, non-profit clinical research center, hospital, and graduate medical school) by participating in a day of complimentary golf, dinner accompanied by a silent auction, raffles, and an awards ceremony. So far, this event has brought employees together to raise more than $300,000 for cancer research.
“Bringing our people together to share in a common goal that is greater than any of us (or what we do on a daily basis) builds Spinitar pride, spirit, and community,” says Spinitar Principal Jeff Irvin.
Over the past year, the company made another important investment in employee engagement by renovating its corporate headquarters. The result: a high-performance workspace that promotes comfort and collaboration for employees to enjoy.
