Congratulations to all award winners!

Excellence in Product Innovation Award

Any manufacturer that produces low-voltage products for installation by integrators in the commercial space is eligible to apply for this award. The awards were announced on Feb. 27, 2024, at NSCA’s 26th annual Business & Leadership Conference in Irving, TX.

Winners were named in each of the following categories, including an overall Grand Prize Winner:

Additional considerations were made during the judging process in regard to how the products impact user experience (i.e. scalability, versatility, deployment cost, ease of use, ROI, ADA compliance, energy efficiency, etc.) The judging panel included NSCA’s director of business resources, the editor of Commercial Integrator, and a panel of integrators from across North America.

“The innovation and creativity that stems from manufacturers continues to improve every year,” says NSCA Director of Business Resources Mike Abernathy. “Our judging team evaluates each nomination carefully, and it becomes harder every year to narrow in on the winners. Nearly every product we see represents the forward-thinking progress that’s happening everywhere in our industry. Manufacturers have never worked harder to create solutions that help position integrators as the providers and supporters of mission-critical technology.”

Excellence in Business Award

NSCA’s Excellence in Business awards honor systems integration firms and their efforts to implement new strategies to navigate the constantly changing industry. We identify integration firms that understand the importance of innovative, forward-thinking ideas.

This year’s Excellence in Business awards honor six integrators for adapting in order to thrive in this unpredictable industry:

  • Hyphn, winner in the Business Performance category, has remained focused on reputation and execution as its Workplace Technology division (WPT) was established in 2019 and has grown to 40 employees. Four years later, in 2023, Hyphn launched a customizable service model backed by WPT that gives customers multiple service options to choose from. The company’s WPT Framework makes it easy to update processes as the business continues to grow. Since its development, team communication and cohesiveness, field execution, return trips, margin, gross profit, and commissioning and client network integration have increased across all product categories.
  • Parallel Technologies, winner in the Customer Experience category, underwent a shift to prioritize the customer experience. After recognizing a disconnect between capabilities of implemented solutions and the clients’ ability to fully leverage them, a new role—client success manager—was created. To shape this role, the company engaged with clients to understand their challenges and reasons for underutilizing implemented security solutions. To measure success, new KPIs are used to track for customer satisfaction, system utilization, and business outcomes. So far, the results show stronger client satisfaction and more inclination to invest in advanced system sales and professional services.
  • Fairchild Communications Systems, winner in the Differentiating Strategies category, needed a strategy to carry out the leadership team’s long-term plan to grow amid the challenge of finding additional qualified staff. During this time, it became evident that the current team needed to work more efficiently. To enable this—and to prepare for growth—the company upgraded to Q360 by Solutions360, an NSCA Business Accelerator. This allows staff to quickly track and analyze all aspects of the business and provides confidence to grow organically. Since then, the company has successfully purchased two firms, which has strengthen its corporate estimating, engineering, purchasing, and accounting teams so branch offices can focus on local customers.
  • ET Group, winner in the Employee Engagement category, has made great strides and achievements to recover from poor leadership, employee burnout, high turnover, and financial uncertainty. Through innovative practices like self-management, self-set salaries, decentralized decision-making, and hybrid work models, employees now have a say in how they work as individuals and as a team. As a result of this vast improvement, ET Group received Great Place to Work certification in 2023, with 97% of team members stating that ET Group is a great place to work.
  • 5 North Media, winner in the Strategic Transformation category, expanded its portfolio of services and entered the integrated AV world. With guidance from NSCA, the team implemented solutions from Solutions360 and D-Tools to grow the business while continuing to operate its recurring-revenue model. These tools accelerated the average project from $10,000 to $250,000. The company also trained its technical staff to meet the needs of the new clients. In 2022, the company was awarded a $5 million AV contract for the Gaylord Pacific Hotel and Convention Center—a feat that would not have been possible without the proper foundation.
  • Texadia Systems, winner in the Talent Development category, fosters an environment where employees are not only empowered to carve out their own career paths, but also recognized for their strengths and potential. Company leaders take time to understand each employee’s capabilities and how to leverage them to guide their professional journeys. An emphasis is also placed on helping employees develop new skills. For example, the tech leaders running projects in the field wanted training on communication, budgets, and interaction—so Texadia Systems made it happen. To continue to nurture talent, the company also focuses on introducing the younger generation to the industry through community outreach, employee referrals, collaborations with colleges and trade schools, and increased engagement with high schools.

These six Excellence in Business award winners will be recognized at NSCA’s sold-out 26th annual Business & Leadership Conference, Feb. 27-29, 2024, in Irving, TX. To learn more, visit

John Greene Mentorship Award

Alesia Hendley, 2024 recipient of the John Greene Mentorship Award

NSCA was proud to present Alesia Hendley, business development manager at Sennheiser Electronic Corporation, with the first-ever John Greene Mentorship Award at the 26th annual Business & Leadership Conference (BLC), held Feb. 27-29, 2024, in Irving, TX.

This award is named after John Greene, a well-known industry educator and mentor. He was passionate about helping others reach their full potential, and he was always willing to go the extra mile to support his students and colleagues. Greene was a role model for many during his 30-year career. He passed on May 13, 2021, at age 63 after a lengthy battle with cancer. This award was created to honor his legacy of helping others. He not only dedicated his life to industry mentorship but also served as a volunteer and co-captain for Special Olympics Pennsylvania and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.

Hendley is an AV professional who found her passion for the industry at a young age as a sound engineer in her father’s church. Today, in addition to working for one of the world’s most prestigious microphone manufacturing companies, she’s also one of the industry’s top influencers and content creators. She’s been included in Commercial Integrator’s 40 Under 40 influencers list, Installation’s Pro AV Watch List roundup, and SCN’s The Nine list. As an industry leader, she focuses on paying it forward and using her platform to amplify other voices.

“Learning that I won the first-ever John Greene Mentorship Award left me speechless,” says Hendley. “John always poured into me, especially early on in my career. He constantly cheered me on, shared his knowledge with me, and encouraged me in times when I wanted to quit. To know I’m playing a part in others’ lives the way John did for me is a true honor and a blessing. I plan to continue paying it forward with his contributions to not only me but also this entire industry forever in my mind and heart.”

While the industry recognizes that no one can replicate Greene’s charisma and passion, NSCA believes that leaders like Hendley can help the industry work together to continue to mentor up-and-coming leaders.

“John had a unique ability to genuinely connect with people,” says NSCA Executive Director Tom LeBlanc, “and Hendley’s ability to do the same was evident in the multiple nominations we received for her. She clearly believes in bringing the human connection to business.”
