A/V System Noise and Ground Loops

Course Number:
JO1B
Course Level:
Intermediate
Bill Whitlock, Jensen Transformers

This course, taught by a widely recognized expert, will take a troubleshooting approach to hum/buzz in audio or “hum bars” in video systems. He will explain and demonstrate how this interference is coupled from the power line or other sources into the signal path. Simple yet powerful troubleshooting procedures reveal both the nature of the problem and its exact location. Bill will demonstrate that it isn't necessary to compromise safety to make a system quiet. His popular seminars and magazine articles have helped thousands dispel the pervasive myths about grounding and debunk the claims of charlatans. Don't waste time and money on so-called solutions that invoke "junk science" and produce marginal, if any, improvement. Avoid noise problems in new systems or quickly cure those in existing systems using the practical know-how offered in this course. Students should understand basic concepts of electricity and simple schematic diagrams. Some experience designing, installing, or servicing audio/video systems is helpful but not necessary.
