Course Descriptions
NSCA EST-L2 Review
- Course Number:
- ESTR2
Prepare for NSCA’s EST-L2 exam. This course will cover what to expect, including an introduction to blueprints, wire and cable termination, pathways and spaces, cable selection, busses and networks, power quality and grounding, and basic and advanced test equipment. Call 800-446-6722 for pricing and to register for the on-site exam.
System Design Using EASE 4.2—Level I
- Course Number:
- JT1B
- Course Level:
- Intermediate
A training session in the practical use of the acoustic/sound reinforcement design and analysis computer program EASE 4.2 created by Dr.Wolfgang Ahnert. This is a basic "hands on" EASE training seminar for people actively engaged in sound system design. Desktop computers will be provided for participant use. Participants may also bring their notebook computer for use during the seminar assuming that it is equipped with a properly operating and current version of EASE (version 4.2 or later). It is not necessary to own EASE 4.2 prior to attending this seminar. This will be a practical seminar and participants will build a model of a real room using many of the EASE 4.2 model building techniques, install a sound reinforcement system in this room, and explore the performance of this sound system. Some of the topics to be discussed and exercises to be accomplished will include: program and file structure, starting a new project, model building techniques, exploration of "Wall" and "Speaker" databases, assigning "Wall" and "Speaker" data to the project, acoustical properties of rooms as displayed by EASE, building a model of a real room, placing loudspeakers in the model, powering, aiming, and delaying loudspeakers, mapping sound pressure levels with and without "interference," use of vertex, face, listening seat, loudspeaker, and other tables, determining distances and sound travel times in the, model saving and printing graphics, tables, etc.

Project Management of Systems Projects
- Course Number:
- NT043
- Course Level:
- Advanced
Do you want to know how to save time and energy on your next project? This 2-day course will teach you how to apply effective project management principles in your day-to-day management of your projects. This course will help you understand and proactively manage the four phases of project (Defining, Planning, Implementing and Closing).
You will learn how to create a best-in-class project binder, plan a project kick-off meeting, validate the scope of work, create riser diagrams, maintain your daily logbook, anticipate problems and close your projects on time and within budget.
Be sure to ask about the certification exam available only to those who attend this course that may be used to help fulfill one of the requirements for sitting for NSCA's new R-ESI exam! Please note that this course contains material from the 4-hour conference seminar, "Managing Multiple Small Projects".

Sound Reinforcement Design
- Course Number:
- NT022
- Course Level:
- Intermediate
Engineer successful sound reinforcement systems by using a systematic approach taught in this class. Participants can expect to learn how to optimize coverage and pattern control through effective loudspeaker arraying techniques; basic room acoustics as applicable to sound system designs; how to account for sound absorption by air; the effect of amplifier damping factor and level losses due to wire and transformers; calculate distributed loudspeaker coverage; and calculate speech intelligibility. Also learn some key concepts for setting up and tuning a sound system. Instructors use classroom demonstrations involving loudspeakers, digital signal processing and computer measurement to provide memorable experiences with some of the concepts discussed. Participants receive a course manual and a simple Excel spreadsheet called “SoundCalcs”. Participants should bring their own notebook computers, if possible, to get first-hand experience with the “SoundCalcs” spreadsheet. Attendees who are familiar with basic electronics and are able to perform simple algebraic equations will benefit most from this class.
