NSCA President To Serve On Iowa Department Of Public Safety Board

Nancy Emerson to assist with rule-making on Fire Extinguishing Systems Contractors and Alarm Systems Advisory Board

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA, August 31, 2007 — MTC Systems CEO Nancy Emerson just got busier. Emerson, who also serves as the volunteer president of the National Systems Contractors Association (NSCA), has joined the newly formed Iowa Fire Extinguishing Systems Contractors and Alarm Systems Advisory Board. She will assist in drafting rules regarding how alarm contractors and installers will be certified in the state of Iowa. Emerson’s company specializes in voice and data products, and her expertise with nurse call systems was a major reason why Iowa Public Safety Commissioner Gene Meyer asked her to serve.

“(Emerson) seemed perfect because she is so connected to the industry with NSCA and has handled nurse call systems,” said State Building Code Commissioner Stuart Crine.  “We expect our (board) representatives to be conduits back and forth in the industry.”

NSCA Executive Director Chuck Wilson seconded those sentiments. “Nancy has been an excellent leader for NSCA. Her industry knowledge will be an asset for this Board,” Wilson said.

The standing advisory board is asked to meet provisions of 2007 Iowa Acts, House File 897. The bill, passed in April, seeks to establish certification requirements for those who work in the fire alarm, security alarm and medical alarm industries.  After they have researched industry issues, the board will make recommendations to the Iowa State Fire Marshal next year. Emerson’s role is three-fold: to assist in rule-making, to draft certification requirements and to clarify specific provisions in the bill.
