NSCA Education Foundation awards scholarships to further industry education
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA, August 13, 2008 — The NSCA Education Foundation recently awarded eight $1,000 scholarships to students pursuing education related to the commercial electronic systems industry.
“The NSCA Education Foundation helps advance the industry through a variety of initiatives, including our scholarship program, which helps attract the next generation of industry professionals,” said Tom Frericks, president of the NSCA Education Foundation.
Winners include Jess Ashby, Marc-Andrew Brooks, Cody Dixon, Erin Graham, Brad Groarke, Wesley Luce, Dawn Meade and Ross Nordeen. In their applications, the scholarship winners outlined their career goals, past experiences and hopes for the future.
For example, Nordeen once built his own computer and plans to use his award to study IT.
"I want to make a difference in the world by continuing my education further at Michigan Technological University learning about computers and testing their boundaries," he said.
Another scholarship winner was exposed to television production at age nine and loves working hands-on with the equipment. Graham said winning the scholarship was a big financial relief.
“When I learned that I received the scholarship, there was a major burden lifted off my shoulders and a push to continue reaching for my goal,” she said.
After attending Dave Matthews and Incubus concerts, Luce realized he wanted to work in live sound as a career.
“It’s a nice award that will help me with my schooling – allowing to me to chase my dreams of being successful in the field of audio technology,” Luce said.
In addition to the NSCA Scholarship, Ashby and Meade also each received a $2,500 Robert Bosch scholarship.
Scholarship winners were selected based on the presentation of their applications, grade point averages, work experiences and letters of recommendation.
